NTUC welcomes new SNEF council

The Labour Movement is confident that the re-elected SNEF president’s leadership will be instrumental in advancing tripartism.

NTUC has extended its congratulations to the Singapore National Employers Federation’s (SNEF) newly elected council.

 

SNEF announced on 19 September 2024 its 20-member council for the 2024-2026 term following its 44th annual general meeting.

 

SNEF has re-elected Tan Hee Teck as the federation’s president. He became president on 26 July 2024 after Robert Yap stepped down as president and council member on 11 June 2024.

 

Mr Tan is the chairman and chief executive officer of Resorts World at Sentosa.

 

He has been SNEF’s vice president since September 2022 and has served on the council for 15 years.

 

NTUC said it is confident in Mr Tan’s leadership and that he will be instrumental in advancing tripartism with NTUC and the Ministry of Manpower for the interests of businesses, workers, and Singapore.

 

“This marks the start of a refreshed collaborative journey for NTUC with the new SNEF Council members. NTUC looks forward to a strong partnership with SNEF aimed at driving initiatives that yield win-win-win outcomes for companies and workers, and our economy,” said NTUC

 

Advancing tripartism

 

The new council aims to maintain the federation as a trusted tripartite partner to MOM and NTUC, said SNEF.

 

SNEF added: “The strong tripartite relationship enables SNEF to represent employers effectively in shaping manpower policies to maintain Singapore’s industrial harmony and enhance its competitiveness to help employers achieve sustainable business growth and create good jobs for workers.

 

“The council will continue to deliver on SNEF’s commitment to advancing tripartism and enhancing labour market flexibility for employers to implement responsible employment practices in Singapore.”

 

Longstanding partnership

 

SNEF has been NTUC’s counterpart in tripartism since its establishment in 1980.

 

NTUC and SNEF have worked closely together on various initiatives, such as the recent SkillsFuture Jobseeker support through the NTUC-SNEF PME Taskforce in 2021.

 

NTUC said: “The idea of an unemployment support scheme was first mooted by NTUC in 2014 and further developed by the joint NTUC-SNEF PME Taskforce in 2021. After a decade-long discussion, including disagreements, the tripartite partners reached a constructive solution for the benefit of our workers.

 

“NTUC, alongside our tripartite partners, remains dedicated to enhancing workforce capabilities and strengthening economic resilience. Our goal is to ensure that Singapore remains a competitive hub so that our workers can enjoy better wages, welfare and work prospects.”
